About
The Portfolio Career Project
What is this project?
The Portfolio Career Project is an exploration of what it means to build a creative career outside traditional paths. It’s about embracing fluidity, adaptability, and self-definition as an artist, designer, writer, and creative entrepreneur.
At its heart, this project is both a book and a movement—a collection of insights, reflections, and creative work that challenges outdated career models and offers a more expansive way to think about creative identity.
It will culminate in a beautifully designed book.
Why am I doing this?
I’ve always been drawn to multi-faceted, evolving creative work—never fitting into one label, one discipline, or one career track. I know I’m not alone in this. Many artists, designers, and creative professionals today are moving away from rigid career paths and instead crafting their own unique, dynamic professional lives—balancing multiple projects, skill sets, and creative pursuits.
However, the traditional career advice we’ve been given often doesn’t apply to this way of working. The Portfolio Career Project is my way of documenting, celebrating, and expanding on what it means to thrive in a creative career built on diversity, adaptability, and self-direction.
It’s also a deeply personal project. Like many creatives, I’ve felt the frustration of not fitting into one industry, one job, or one clear path—but I’ve also experienced the power of owning that and making it my strength. This project is for anyone who:
Feels like they’re always juggling multiple creative passions and struggling to make them work together.
Wants to move beyond the "one job, one title" expectation and build something more expansive.
Needs real, lived examples of people successfully navigating multi-disciplinary careers.
What does this project entail?
This initiative is structured around four key components:
The Book: A Creative Blueprint
With a focus on self-awareness, career design, and redefining success for yourself.
Live & Online Conversations
Panel discussions, and interactive events to bring these ideas into dialogue.
Both in-person and digital formats to make it accessible to a broad audience.
A platform for open discussion, featuring voices from different creative industries.
Visual & Digital Storytelling
Collaboration to craft a visually stunning book.
A strong digital presence with videos, articles, and interactive content that expands on the themes of the project.
Community & Resources
A space to connect, share experiences, and learn from others navigating portfolio careers.
Future workshops, courses, or mentorship opportunities to support creatives in building their own multi-disciplinary paths.
The Bigger Picture & Future Steps
Right now, I’m in the development phase, working on structuring the book, potentially securing funding, and building the foundation for this project to evolve over time. The next steps include:
Finalising content & gaining insights from the survey
Funding & partnerships to support the book, events, and digital expansion.
Launching live events & online conversations to test ideas and gather input.
This isn’t just a one-time project—it’s the beginning of something much bigger. The Portfolio Career Project is about changing the way we think about creative careers and offering a new, adaptable framework for success.
If this resonates with you, let’s connect—join the conversation, collaborate, or support the project.
